Life At CGPS

True education means more than pursuing a certain course of study. It has to do with the whole person, and with the whole period of existence possible to human beings. It is the harmonious development of the physical, the mental, and the spiritual powers.

School Cabinet

Carmel Garden Public School enlists and guides the talents, energies and aspirations of students to higher levels of achievement through opportunities of leadership, constantly nurturing, improving and reforming personalities to take on larger roles at leadership.

Monitor System- Class Level
Nominated monitors for each class-division are entrusted with responsibilities of Discipline, Education, Health and Hygiene, and Traffic and Transport. This system provides opportunities for students at young ages to step up to positions of limited leadership. Emphasis is laid on maximum opportunity i.e. all children must be given opportunities at leadership as far as possible.

Prefectorial Board – Senior Classes
At the beginning of every academic year the Prefectorial Board is sworn in an elaborate investiture ceremony. Each cabinet’s term lasts for a year, after which the next team takes over.

A nominating committee consisting of the Director, Principal, Coordinators and respective class and subject teachers identifies a set of students to don the mantle of Prefects. The members of the Prefects’ Council work together as a team to uphold the rules and regulations of the school and help to maintain discipline. Through their work as prefects they learn the valuable lesson that with authority comes responsibilities and its associated challenges. The Prefects’ Council is the first step towards our goal of creating conscientious and responsible global citizens. They also shoulder the responsibility of organizing all cultural programmes and competitions held in the school. Being student representatives, the cabinet acts as an important link between the students and the school management.

House Prefects shall shoulder the responsibilities of portfolio of Discipline, Education, Health and Hygiene, and Traffic and Transport and shall guide and mentor the class monitors. Another set of students from the senior most class are nominated to contest elections to the coveted posts of School Captain, School Vice-Captain, House Captain and Vice House Captain.

Cabinet System
Headed by the School Captain and assisted by the Vice School Captain the cabinet consists of the House Prefects and all Class Monitors achieving an efficient, productive and harmonious school environment. They meet as an entire cabinet to take stock of the situation and make recommendations to the Principal for final implementation.

Clubs

The child has one intuitive aim: self development. He desperately wants to develop his resources, his ability to cope with a strange, complex world. He wants to do and see and learn for himself through his senses and not through the eyes of an adult. He becomes a full person. He is educated.”

Physical Education & School Band

Back in the day when playing games outdoors were the most preferred form of entertainment, in todays world we see how screens are increasingly turning into electronic babysitters. It is more important than ever to ensure that our kids get enough exercise, understand the importance of playing outdoors and learning the rules of fair play.

At Carmel Garden Public School sports and games curriculum is an integral and compulsory part of the education process. Sports help to build character and teach the importance of discipline in life. It inculcates a respect for rules and allows the participants to learn the value to self-control.

Students are trained in football, volleyball, badminton, taekwando, throwball, athletics, kho-kho, chess & carrom. We give a lot of importance to improving the fitness level of students. Every Wednesday morning students are engaged in a mass drill conducted by our PET teachers. Students do exercises to tone and strengthen their muscles. In these sessions students learn self defense techniques which not only help them to defend themselves but also give them the confidence to handle difficult situations.

Physical Education is an important part of our co-scholastic activities. Sports fosters team spirit, sportsmanship and over all physical development. The school encourages children to develop their fitness levels through exercises, aerobics and games. Healthy eating habits are also encouraged from the Nursery upwards.

The Spirit of good Sportsmanship is learnt on the playing fields at school. Sports teaches us about teamwork and to work together to achieve a common goal. It’s also about trust and responsibility and about dealing with success and failure. We learn about coping with pressure and the need to stick with training in order to improve.

A select group of children from classes V to X constitutes the school band. The school band displays its might on important occasions like Independence Day, Republic Day, and Sports Day. The marching contingent has even performed in the cluster level sports competitions organized by the Dep. of Education, Govt. of Karnataka.

Music & School Choir

Music is the language of the heart. No matter where you are from, or the culture you belong to, a good melody is something anyone can enjoy. In the words of Greek philosopher Plato, “Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, and life to everything”.

At Carmel Garden Public School we offer music education in two forms, i.e., through the school choir and piano lessons.

Currently, we have two choirs – the High School Choir and the Junior Choir. Students are trained to perform for all the important occasions in the school as well as lead out songs during the morning assembly. They are taught to sing in concord using various techniques and approaches as fit the need. They also learn to work as a team while having fun together. This year both choirs were part of the annual Christmas concert and they had a ball rehearsing for it.

Western Classical Piano Lessons are held as an After School Hours program for those students interested in the same. Classes are conducted weekly on a one-to-one basis where the student receives individual attention from the instructor. The greatest boon of these classes is that unlike most music courses, we teach children to read music staff notation, which in turn will help them eventually play any piece of music that is handed to them.

All in all, music education holds many benefits for the overall development of an individual. We strongly believe that parents must not discourage their children’s musical inclinations and desires.

Co-Curriculars

The child has one intuitive aim: self development. He desperately wants to develop his resources, his ability to cope with a strange, complex world. He wants to do and see and learn for himself through his senses and not through the eyes of an adult. He becomes a full person. He is educated.”

Excursions

The primary objective and intent of our schools is to awaken intelligence in the educator and the student. This has to be kept in the forefront of all activities in the school —academic or otherwise—both at the time of design and at the time of implementation of such activities. Educational trips that form a part of the school curriculum are very valuable as they provide the students the opportunity of learning through travel, especially to places that they may not otherwise get to visit. Apart from this, the trips also provide relief from the drudgery that academic study sometimes becomes, an opportunity for close interaction with peers that students enjoy so much, and a chance for the teacher to observe and interact with the student in a structure different from and more informal than the classroom.

Competitions

Competitions play a role in motivating students to perform and excel and offer a lot more reward than just the winning prize. Competitions offer a chance for participants to gain substantial experience, showcase skills, analyze and evaluate outcomes and uncover personal aptitude. Competitions also encourage students to adopt innovative techniques and develop their ideas and skills

Science Exhibition

The school exhibition that is held in Carmel Garden is a great platform for the kids to do things. The school takes utmost interest to organize exhibitions of such kind where the kids get some chance to showcase their talents. This is a good way to find out the talented ones who are there in the school and also to open a platform for the kids to show their talents. The school believes in the philosophy that it is not enough for the kids to learn the lessons from the textbooks, but they should be given adequate space and time for letting the inner talents get a platform to be showcased.
